Dear Gibs, I'm Leo from Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Recently I'm hearing a "grinding like" sound whenever I'm turning my steering wheel left or right especially if the car is at stop - just applying the brake. I can hear this even at Reverse direction and most likely during maneuvering at the parking. What could be the problem? My car is Toyota Altis 2005E A/T. Thanks in advance.
Transmission shaking when passing through flood
Dear Gibs, Whenever I drive thru floods (let say 'half-wheel' height), my car (manual transmission) seems to be jerking that it feels the engine want to conk out with sudden forward surges (like "kadyot"). Then after a few seconds on dry pavement, the "kadyots" disappears. What do you think is the problem? Engine or transmission? Thanks.
Hi Gibs, I recently bought a '93 model Toyota Corona 2.0L. I noticed that my gas consumption is about 5km per liter city driving here in Baguio while it runs at around 11.5km per liter on highways. How much do I need to rejet the carb to lessen my gas consumption but would still have enough strength driving uphill and can comfortably run at max 90km/h (highways)? Thanks!
Higher octane fuel on Opel Astra
Hi there, I just had an Opel Astra car. The Astra usually runs on regular unleaded fuel before and I'm planning to use a gasoline with a higher octane rating. Is it safe, does it have any disadvantages? Thanks and more power!
Help! What could be my escape's problem? I have a suspicion that my wheel bearing already has problems or probably my tires. I observed that the humming intensifies from 50 kph and is loudest at 80kph and already has a rhythmic vibration at this speed. The sound and vibration lessens as I approach 100 kph, probably because I can no longer distinguish the rhythmic noise since I am already fast. It doesn't matter which type of road I am running on whether it's asphalt or concrete, the sound is the same. I had my tires rotated but nothing changed. I hope to get insights from an expert like you Gibs. Thanks!
I'm presently using a 2005 1.3e Vios. they say that it runs around 16km per liter in the city and 22km in hway. They say that Honda City i-vtec is more fuel efficient. Can you please explain the pros and cons of vvt-i and i-vtec engines? Thank you very much!
I have a 2003 CR-V approaching 40,000km and I'm soon to bring it to the casa for its scheduled pms. My question is, how do I make sure whether the casa will do their job properly and replace the things that needs to be replaced and inspect the things that needs to be inspected? Also, I have a 2 month old black Innova which was sadly hit by another car (not my fault), now it has a big white gash on the right fender. Interestingly, the hit area is still smooth as if the clear coat is still in place, except the other car's paint kind of transferred to my shiny black paint. How do I get it fixed so as to bring it back to its original state? Thanks in advance!
Delayed reverse and engine knock
I have a local 1997 Suzuki Vitara AT. 1st problem: delayed reverse (recently) Whether or not my car is on normal temperature, I got a delayed reverse engagement often times. I have checked my AT fluid, the color and odor is fine. 2nd problem: engine knock (recently) My engine used to be silent. It had this engine knock lately (idle or running), I just had my oil/filter change (with flushed) but the engine knock is still there. I also had my fuel tank drained and cleaned. I haven't had my car checked since I bought it in Manila April 2009 because all are working fine. I live here in baguio. I want to know some things before going to the mechanic. TIA.
I have a Tamaraw FX and I want to increase the power without breaking the bank. Is having the air intake and exhaust (headers and mufflers) modified would increase its power? Gas consumption? Thanks and more power!
Automatic Transmission shifting woes
Dear Gibs, I am recently experiencing this and just wondering what's causing this. Its hard to press from P to R and back from R to P. Also from N to R then back to P. Its occasional but from my latest observation, this happens after a normal drive then to park my car. But from an early start in the morning or after it has been parked already for period of time, pressing the button seems normal. What seem to be causing this.? My ATF(Genuine Honda Z1) is just 6 months old and level is full. Is there something wrong with its mechanism underneath that I have to check?
