Hybrid version to debut in Japan by September
Honda has released official photos of all variants of the upcoming 2014 Honda Jazz (known as Fit in other markets). The third generation of the subcompact hatchback in its hybrid guise will be launched in Japan by September, contrary to an earlier report that it will debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. This development comes after brochure photos of the upcoming model were leaked online.
The Japanese automaker earlier revealed that the upcoming Jazz/Fit will feature a City-Brake Active System. It also announced last year that the more efficient ‘Earth Dreams’ engines which use a part-time Atikinson cycle will be introduced in the upcoming Jazz, the 1.5-liter engine will be rated at 127hp; while the 1.3-liter engine will also reportedly feature the same technology.
Not much details have been revealed apart from the Japan-spec Fit Hybrid achieving a fuel economy figure of 36.4 km/liter, representing a 35% improvement over the outgoing model which features the IMA system. The upcoming Hybrid model will be equipped with a Sport Hybrid i-DCD (intelligent dual clutch drive) 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. It will feature three driving modes; pure EV, hybrid mode, and engine only mode.
Aside from the hybrid variant, Japan will also be getting an RS version with a more aggresive stance and livelier engine. The ASEAN release will most likely be at the 2014 Bangkok International Motor Show, with a Philippine debut following shortly after.
