Second generation of BMW sports activity coupe unveiled
The 2015 BMW X6 makes its official unveil as the second generation of what the German automaker calls a 'Sports Activity Coupe'. The X6 is a love it or hate it crossover, BMW has sold about 250,000 units to date, which says a lot about the odd styled vehicle. For 2015, it be offered with a new rear-wheel drive model X6 sDrive35i in selected markets.
BMW says "the extrovert design of the new X6 blends the robustness and versatility of a BMW X model with the sporting elegance typical of the brand’s Coupes." The interior design is said to combine generous space with luxurious appointments with attractive design and equipment packages to highlight the X6’s unique styling. It will come with Design Pure Extravagance and M Sport packages as options.
Standard equipment for the 2015 BMW X6 will come in the form of bi-xenon headlights, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, automatic tailgate operation, leather trim, two-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and the Driving Assistant safety package from BMW ConnectedDrive. Lending functionality an extra boost are the 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrests, which allow load compartment capacity to expand from 580 liters to as much as 1,525 liters.
Engine options available for the X6 will be an updated 4.4-liter V8 with TwinPower turbo tech capable of 450 PS and 650 Nm for the xDrive50i; 3.0-liter inline-6 diesel producing 258 PS and 560 Nm for the xDrive30d; and 3.0-liter inline-6 diesel with TwinPower technology featuring three turbos rated at 381 PS and 740 Nm for the M50d.
To follow in the spring of 2015 will be 3.0-liter inline-6 TwinPower turbo technology rated at 306 PS and 407 Nm for the xDrive35i and sDrive35i models, and a slightly more powerful xDrive40d at 313 PS. All variants will be mated to the 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission with steering wheel shift paddles.
The xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system is permanently active to optimize traction control, directional stability and cornering dynamics. Optional Dynamic Performance Control, Professional or Adaptive M adaptive suspension packages can be specified to link up with the xDrive system.
The 2015 BMW X6 is set to hit the showrooms towards the end of 2014 for North American and European markets. The Philippine debut is expected in 2015.
