Hyundai Asia Resources, Incorporated (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai cars in the Philippines, launched the 2015 Sonata at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink in Pasay City.
Dubbed as "Winter Sonata," Hyundai's newest offering to the Philippine automotive market was presented during the brand's traditional holiday celebration. Before the vehicle was officially unveiled, HARI President and CEO Fe Perez-Agudo made an opening speech and said that the 2015 Sonata was redesigned to bring "brilliant customer experience."
"The next-generation model of a Hyundai favorite, re-designed and re-engineered down to the details for premium comfort, safety, and performance, making for nothing less than a brilliant customer experience, in the manner of a world-class brand, a world-class product," Perez-Agudo said.
Then, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata's grand reveal was accompanied with a performace by Olympic figure skater Michael Christian Martinez. The internationally-acclaimed Filipino skater treated the guests with his superb skill along with supreme precision, grace and style.
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata
Compared to its predecessor, the 2015 Sonata is 35mm longer, 30mm wider and 10mm taller. The said vehicle also have a 10mm longer wheelbase. As previously reported, the design concept of the 2015 Sonata features the brand's new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. It now has a lowered hood design along with a "Flat Underbody" which reduces wind drag and keeps the tires gripped to the ground. In addition, Hyundai says more than half of the 2015 Sonata's body is made up of "Advance High Strength Steel."
Up front, the 2015 Sonata is integrated with design tweaks as seen on the restyled headlights and larger grill. The bumper of the vehicle also comes with chrome trim that wraps the Sonata's redesigned fog lamps. Turning at the side, the 2015 Sonata is fitted with new exterior mirrors along with a smoother character lines that extends all the way to the rear.
Design changes continue at the rear of the vehicle. The 2015 Sonata is equipped with new distinctive taillights along with a boot lid mouner lip spoiler. The chrome trim placed above the license plate area was removed in the 2015 Sonata. Moreover, the bumper of the vehicle is more aggressive compared to the previos model and it now houses larger reflector lights and trapeziodal exhaust pipes.
Stepping inside the cabin, you can instantly recognize the changes with the 2015 Sonata's interior. The dashboard looks highly refined and discreet as compared to the previous model's over-emellished design. The steering wheel, instrument cluster, gear stick and center console have been completely reworked with better ergonomics in mind. Adding to the vehicle's interior feature is the panoramic sunroof that will come in handy for sunny day driving. Overall, the cabin of the 2015 Sonata is conservative, yet elegantly designed.
Under the hood is the carried-over 2.4-liter Theta II inline-four engine that delivers 178 PS with 228 Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2015 Sonata comes in Premium and GLS variants priced at PHP 1,898,000 and PHP 1,698,000 respectively. Hyundai likewise announced that the 2015 Sonata now comes with an 8-year or 160,000 km limited powertrain warranty.
