Seven speed manual for most powerful Vantage

Following its commitment to building “involving” sports cars, Aston Martin will soon be producing V12 Vantage S models with a seven speed manual transmission.

“We’re all enthusiasts here at Aston Martin. Building cars that offer something exceptional is what we do. Technology drives us forward, but we understand the importance of tradition. At a time when manual transmissions have almost entirely disappeared in high performance cars, this makes the manual V12 Vantage S a very special car indeed” said Ian Minards, Director of Product Development, Aston Martin.

Seven speed dog-leg transmission

The manual transmission Vantage S features a “dog-leg” shift pattern wherein first gear is where second gear is while reverse moves to where first gear is usually located. This layout allows for quick downshifting with gears 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7 all in one row. The new manual transmission also features AMSHIFT. The driver selectable system uses the clutch, gear position and driveshaft sensors to mimic the technique of heel-and-toe downshifts. In addition, AMSHIFT offers the capability of full-throttle upshifts which, according to Aston Martin, maximizes smoothness with minimal interruption in acceleration. The V12 Vantage S is powered by a 5.9 liter V12 with 573 PS and 620 Nm of torque.

Sport-Plus Pack

This year also marks the re-freshening of of the Vantage line. Apart from the seven speed manual option, a new Sport-Plus Pack will soon be available and includes a number of exterior and interior changes. It gets new five new color choices which can be combined with accent colors applied to the front grill, side sills, mirror caps and rear diffuser blades. With the Sport-Plus Pack, the Vantage rides on bespoke Ten-spoke graphite finish lightweight alloy wheels. The V8 powered models carry over mostly unchanged for 2016, now renamed V8 Vantage S.

AMi III also incorporates Apple CarPlay to enable the integration of iPhone functions into the built-in display.
