All-new A4 also gets high rating for collision mitigation systems
Unveiled earlier this year in the Frankfurt Motor Show, the all-new Audi A4 has officially been crash tested by the European New Car Assesment Program (EuroNCAP). Audi's popular compact executive sedan scored 5 stars in crash performance and high scores in collision mitigation.
Using a left hand drive model, the 2016 A4 got good ratings for the offset impact test at 64 km/h/. According to the test results, the driver and front passenger are likely to suffer little or no injuries from an impact at the test speed. Whiplash protection was also rated good along with a side impact test when simulating a car to car and pole impact. As a result, the 2015 A4 scores 90% in adult occupant protection and 87% in child protection. The new A4 didn't just score high marks in the collision tests, it also earned a 75% rating in pedestrian protection.
Improving the A4's score even further is the company's Multicollision Brake Assist System and optional Pre-sense Basic System. The brake assist system automatically applies the brakes to avoid the crash or minimize impact speed while pre-sense tightens the seatbelts, closes the windows and the sunroof prior to a crash. Pre-sense works for speeds up to 85 km/h and when the risk of collision is detected, the driver recives aural and visual warnings until the system takes over the brakes. All in all, the A4 scored 75% in the safety assist categoy. Thanks to these features, the all-new A4 bagged the “Euro NCAP advanced” special award.
A special option in new A4's is the Collision Avoidance Assist System, which helps the person behind the wheel drive around an obstacle. Another option is the Turn Assist System, which measures distances between cars when making turns in busy streets. Those getting down from the car also get a safety assist in the form of the Exit Warning System. The system activates red LEDs to warn those inside the cabin whenever it’s unsafe to open the doors.
