Get to see Alien Invasion, Pirate's Curse, Grave Digger and the rest this weekend
Monster trucks will once again roar inside the SM Mall of Asia Arena with the second staging of Monster Jam Manila. The Monster Jam crew are working overtime to get all eight trucks ready for the Father's Day weekend spectacle.
One of the newest trucks that will be making their Philippine debut is Pirate's Curse. Behind the wheel of the marauder is probably one of the youngest drivers to join this year's Monster Jam Manila, Steven Sims.
Son of Steve Sims who drives Stone Crusher, Steven got his first taste of Monster Jam driving Hooked in 2014. Today however, he pilots Pirate's Curse. It's relatively new as it was first introduced last January and Steve loves everything about it.
“I love it, it's brand new. They actually finished building it right before 2016, just a week before. Everything on it is brand new; the body, the concept, the engine and chassis,” said Sims. The only trouble he had with Pirate's Curse was getting used to driving it but Steve assured that he will make it jump high come race day.
With 15 years of driving monster trucks under his belt, Chad Tingler is no stranger in making monster trucks fly or kick up some major dirt. For a decade, Tingler drove Grave Digger, one of the most famous trucks in Monster Jam. For 2016 however, he's now driving one of the latest additions to join the roster, Alien Invasion.
As for what we can expect from the extraterrestrial truck, Tingler said that fans can expect Alien Invasion to go airborne and do a lot of wheelies.
“We'll be doing a lot of good wheelies here, some big jumps with the dirt ramps. We're going to try and do some donuts but with the dirt being tacky as it is, it's going to be a lot harder,” said Tingler.
Representing team Grave Digger is Adam Anderson. If the name sounds familiar, that's because Adam is the eldest son of Dennis Anderson, arguably the most famous monster truck driver. How does it feel to be driving what could be the poster-boy of Monster Jam?
“It's pretty awesome. I've been doing this for a long time and I've watched both Monster Jam and Grave Digger grow. To be a part of it and to be here in the Philippines representing the team, it doesn't get any bigger and I'm very excited.
Apart from the return of Grave Digger, there will also be familiar faces that will return this year. Among those is Dragon (driven by Scotty Liddycoat) and Max-D (driven by Neil Elliot).
Also making their first run here in the country will be Monster Mutt Dalmatian (Candice Jolly), Scooby Doo (Brianna Mahon) and Team Hot Wheels Firestorm (Morgan Kane).
Monster Jam will perform on June 18 and 19 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
