Proton badge engineers previous generation Honda Accord as 2016 Perdana

Proton's new-generation D-segment (midsize) sedan has been revealed after the company took the wraps off the 2016 Perdana. Based off the previous generation Honda Accord, the 2016 Perdana features Proton's new design philosophy as well as a slightly tweaked cabin design.

Starting with the exterior, the front end is unique to the car as it gets the brand's Proton Wings chrome grill. Also striking are the wraparound HID projector headlights with integrated daytime running lights (DRLs).

Around the back, the 2016 Perdana also gets a distinct rear-end finish that is comprised of fender-wrapping LED taillights, dual bumper-integrated exhaust pipes and a large chrome trim on the trunk lid. Rounding it all up are the 17-inch alloys (standard on 2.4-liter variants) and the aerodynamic side skirts and rear lip spoiler.

Inside, Proton tweaked the cabin by rearranging some of the switch controls and key features. Other than that, it gets an array of standard equipment like touchscreen infotainment with CD/DVD, USB, AM/FM radio and Aux connectivity, dual-zone climate control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Other features like GPS navigation, electrically-adjustable front seats, paddle shifters and subwoofer are only available for the range-topping 2.4-liter model.

In terms of trim, the entry-level 2.0-liter gets leather and fabric finished in black. Meanwhile the top-of-the-line 2.4-liter is fully upholstered in black-beige leather.

Under the hood, the 2016 Perdana will be available with two engine choices. First is the 2.0-liter SOHC inline-four that generates 154 PS at 6,000 rpm along with 189 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm. On the other hand, the more powerful 2.4-liter inline-four cranks out 178 PS at 6,500 rpm and 222 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed automatic that drives the front wheels.

Over to safety, both the 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter models get the same level of equipment. These include: dual front SRS airbags, dual side airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, automatic headlights, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX anchors and a reverse camera.

Colors available for the 2016 Proton Perdana are: Citrine Gold, Cotton White, Graphite Gray, Midnight Black, Ruby Red and Sterling Silver.
