Volvo combines ruggedness with sophistication in new V60 Cross Country

After making its world debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, Sweden's latest crossover is now available in the country after Volvo Philippines officially launched the V60 Cross Country. Combining ruggedness, distinct styling and a cozy interior, the V60 Cross Country features increased ride height, high-profile tires and a more sporty driving experience.

As previously mentioned, the new crossover has better ground clearance compared to the standard V60 wagon. Also complementing its rugged exterior are the front and rear skid plates, fender extensions, signature Cross Country honeycomb grill, gloss black side mirror caps and greenhouse area, and a Cross Country emblem embossed on the rear skid plate.

Completing the exterior kit is a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in high-profile tires. Volvo claimed that these tires will deliver better ride comfort and off-road grip, as well as reduced road noise and improved wheel protection when tackling the elements.

Inside the V60 Cross Country, the floating center console design makes its way in Volvo's latest crossover. Materials like leather and wood have been applied as well to spruce up cabin ambiance. As an option, piano black decals can also be specified. Also present are rotary jewel-like control knobs at the center stack and a frameless rearview mirror.

In terms of infotainment, Volvo fitted the V60 Cross Country with a Sensus Connect system. According to the automaker, it has a reworked user interface along with new functions. Moreover, it also has a new premium sound system that is comprised of a 5x130W amplifier, twelve loudspeakers, long-throw woofer and tweeters.

Under the hood, the V60 Cross Country is propelled by a D4 Drive-E powertrain. The 2.0-liter inline-four twin-turbo diesel puts out a healthy 190 PS at 4,250 rpm along with 400 Nm of torque at 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. Power is then transferred to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that comes with paddle shifters for manual shifting of the cogs.
