Kia may update Soul with turbocharged gasoline inline-four
The Kia Soul may soon be available with a turbocharged gasoline engine after the company released a new video advert stating it will be available by the end of 2016.
In both models, the turbocharged inline-four doles out 204 PS and 265 Nm of torque. Both the hatchback and sedan get a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox but the Elantra Sport is also available with a standard 6-speed manual.
The company has yet to detail whether it will be available in other markets beside the US.
First launched in the country back in 2009, the first-generation Kia Soul was only available with either a 1.6- or 2.0-liter gasoline engines. It was mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission that powered the front wheels. Today however, the second-generation Soul is solely propelled by a 1.6-liter U2 turbo-diesel that puts out 128 PS at 4,000 rpm along with 260 Nm of torque available between 1,900 – 2,750 rpm.
