The Mitsubishi Lancer lives on in Taiwan as the Grand Lancer

The Mitsubishi Lancer will not be going away silently it seems. Shortly following what appeared to be leaked photos of the Taiwan-spec Lancer revamp, the automaker officially revealed the 2017 Grand Lancer.

The C-segment sedan now sports a heavily revised front and rear end, as well as a redesigned interior.

Starting off with the exterior, the 2017 Grand Lancer now conforms with the brand's Dynamic Shield corporate look. A large chrome grill dominates the front fascia, along with sleek headlights that can be specified with LED lighting. It also gets the eye-catching chrome trim on the bumper, reminiscent with the Mitsubishi Outlander and Montero Sport.

Along the side, one can see that Mitsubishi kept the original profile of the Lancer for the 2017 revamp. They only spruced it up by putting additional dynamic lines on the doors. New, however, are the 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels which are only available for the high-end models.

Around the back, the Grand Lancer gets a new set of L-shaped LED taillights and new trunk design. Also making its way in the sedan is a new sporty rear bumper.

As mentioned earlier, the 2017 Grand Lancer gets a redesigned interior. The sedan's dashboard design now resembles the one used on the Strada and Montero Sport. A new 3-spoke steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment, auto climate control and gear shifter make their way in the 2017 Grand Lancer. Also, top-of-the-range models come with leather upholstery and a new optional digital instrument panel.

Mitsubishi added that they also improved the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) deadening on all variants except for the entry-level version.

Powering all variants of the 2017 Grand Lancer is a 1.8-liter SOHC 4J10 inline-four with MIVEC. It puts out 140 PS and 176 Nm of torque and is connected to an INVECS-III CVT that drives the front wheels.

Safety features that come as standard on the revamped Lancer include: anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), stability control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX rear child seat anchors and six airbags all around.
