Smarter, bolder 2017 Nissan Terrano gets 22 new features

Originally revived back in 2013 (sold as a 2014 model year) for an all-new crossover, Nissan recently gave the Terrano crossover a mid-cycle update for 2017. According to the automaker, the 2017 Terrano has a total of 22 new features that aim to make the crossover smarter and bolder.

“The new Nissan Terrano embodies our commitment to keep focused on what consumers want and value. The New Terrano keeps its bold road presence, in line with Nissan’s global SUV heritage, while offering a more refined interior space and smart features. The 22 new smart and bold features will empower our customers to enjoy a more comfortable, convenient and pleasurable drive in style,” said Guillaume Sicard, president of Nissan India Operations.

While it may look the same, the 2017 Terrano gets subtle exterior revisions. For starters, it has a new 4-pod headlight design for improved night time visibility. The signature V-Motion front grill also gets some slight tweaks, with the mesh design now having a more prominent finish.

Also, the revised front bumper and lower air intake give the car a more purposeful finish. Other changes introduced in the updated Terrano are the L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), power folding side mirrors with integral turn signals and a new paint option, Sandstone Brown.

Beyond that, almost everything from the pre-facelift model has been carried over to the 2017 model year refresh.

It's inside where Nissan gave the Terrano a major overhaul. High-end models now have a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard. Aside from supporting AM/FM radio, MP3 and USB, the new system now also provides navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. A new steering wheel also makes its way in the 2017 Terrano and comes with audio/phone controls. Cruise control and voice recognition can also be specified in top-of-the-line models of the updated Terrano.

In terms of upholstery, Nissan said that the 2017 Terrano now comes with a new seat fabric finished in black and chocolate brown. They claim that it is more comfortable than the previous fabric that they used. Illuminated power window switches, a new driver's armrest, two-tone interior panels and a redesigned instrument panel complete the cabin changes on the 2017 Terrano.

Like the pre-facelift version, a total of three engine options are available for the 2017 Terrano. Entry-level models are powered by a 1.6-liter MPFI gasoline inline-four. It produces 104 PS at 5750 rpm and 148 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm. It is then married to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Next is the 1.5-liter dCi turbo-diesel which is available for mid-range models. It puts out 85 PS at 3750 rpm, along with 200 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. It too, is also mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

At the top of the range is a more powerful version of the 1.5-liter dCi turbo-diesel. With a high-pressure turbo (THP), the four-cylinder turbo-diesel generates 110 PS at 4000 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. Unlike the previous engine offerings, this particular turbo-diesel can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automated-manual.

In terms of safety, the 2017 Terrano can come with the following: anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), electronic stability (ESP), hill-start assist (HSA), engine immobilizer, reverse sensors and speed sensing door locks as such.
