Honda prepares production model of all-new Civic Type R

For over 20 years, the Civic Type R has long been Honda's iconic performance hatchback. Following a short run of the current model, Honda is set to reveal the latest iteration of the Civic Type R atthe Geneva Motor Show this March.

The upcoming Civic Type R will be the 5th generation of the long-running series. Honda previewed the model last year when they revealed it during the Paris Motor Show.

With the way Honda has previewing production models, we can expect the next generation Civic Type R to remain faithful to the concept. That particular car featured an aggressive aero package, larger wheels, Brembo brakes and a tri-tipped exhaust. In production form, the aero kit might be less aggressive and the wheels may be smaller.

Honda has not yet revealed much regarding the new power plant. It is confirmed however, that powering the new Civic Type R will be a 2.0L VTEC turbocharged engine mated to a 6-speed manual. The new engine is presumably an updated version of the 2.0 turbo found in the previous generation CTR, which produced 300PS and 400Nm of torque.

According to Honda, production of the all-new Civic Type R will begin later this year. Like the standard Civic Hatchback, the Type R models will be built in Honda's plant in Swindon, England. It will be available in both left hand drive and right hand drive as it will become the first Civic Type R to be offered in North America. Sales for the ASEAN region have yet to be confirmed.
