Four-door sedan brother of the Mirage previewed

Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Coproration (MMPC) brought in journalists to Thailand for the global preview of the upcoming Mitsubishi Mirage G4 (Attrage for International markets). MMPC decided to skip the Attrage nomenclature for the Philippine market due to its semblance to Filipino word 'atras', which means to go back, which the company feels is not proper for a new car.

Mirage G4 rear

Design-wise, the new sedan is pretty much spot on with the Concept G4 which held its World Premiere at the 2013 Bangkok International Motor Show last March with just minor production model adaptations. The brilliant-cut diamond motif is utlized in both the front and the rear to make it distinct from its hatchback sibling. The body measures in at 4245mm long, 1670mm wide, and 1515mm tall. This translates to a car that is 535mm longer, 5mm wider, and 15mm taller. Wheelbase is extended by 100mm to 2550mm, giving it the same wheelbase as a Toyota Vios.

Mirage G4 engine

Based on the Mirage hatchback, the sedan inherits the engine, transmission, and basic suspension setup and configuration. The 1.2-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC capable of 78 PS and 100 Nm of torque is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an INVECS III CVT. The suspension is MacPherson up front, while the gets a torsion beam with minor tweaks for the added weight and capacity.

Mirage G4 dashboard

The dashboard and interior panels are essentially the same with the hatchback. Legroom receives a significant improvement due to the longer wheelbase as cabin space measures in at 1725mm, 15mm more than the Lancer EX. Trunkspace is also noticeably abundant for a car of its size with a capacity of 450 liters, 20 liters more than the Lancer EX.

Four variants of the Mirage G4 will be made available to the Philippine market as with the Mirage hatchback, these are the GLX M/T, GLX CVT, GLS M/T, and GLS CVT. The GLX variants come with 14-inch steel wheels and wheel covers while the GLS variants come with 15-inch alloy wheels and other premium features. Pricing has yet to be revealed but will be slightly more than the hatchback.
