Executives hint at more engines to be available on the EcoSport
In a conversation with Trevor Worthington, Ford's vice president for Vehicle Development in Asia Pacific & Africa (Ford APA) at the ASEAN drive of the new Ford Fiesta EcoBoost in Chiang Mai, Thailand, it seems that the upcoming EcoSport crossover could come with two engines that we were initially told wasn't in the works for the B-segment SUV.
Worthington and his team hinted that the EcoSport may be offered not just with the 1.5 liter Ti-VCT 4-cylinder engine, but a 1.5 liter TDCi turbo diesel and the 1.0 liter EcoBoost gasoline turbo engine as well at a later time. The news contradicts what Ford executives told us last March at the Bangkok Motor Show that the 1.5 TDCI and 1.0 EcoBoost were not to be offered with the EcoSport.
As to what prompted the supposed change, we can only guess, but offering turbo diesel and gasoline versions of the upcoming EcoSport can only broaden the customer base for the B-segment crossover even further.
While not exact date has been given, Ford Philippines says that they will launch the new Ford EcoSport early 2014.
