The world's first

Through the years, Audi has developed its automotive lighting technology. In 2008, the Audi R8 became the first production car in the world to have all-LED headlights and followed by the dynamic turn signals in 2012. Last year, Audi released the Matrix LED headlights that debuted in the updated A8.

Now, the brand with four rings is ready to take on the next stage as it presents the laser spot high beams that is infused with the limited R8 LMX.

Audi says the new laser high beams generate a cone of light with twice the range of the all-LED headlight. Each laser module comprises of four high-power diodes with a diameter of 300 micrometers. The high-power diodes generate a blue laser beam with a wavelength of 450 nanometers.

The automaker says a phosphor converter transforms the laser beam into road worthy white light with a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin.  Furthermore, the laser spot, which is active at speeds of 60 km/h and above, supplements the LED high beam in the Audi R8 LMX. It also has a camera-based sensor that detects other motorists and actively adjusts the light pattern to exclude them.

The Audi R8 LMX is available as a coupe with a production run limited to 99 vehicles.

It has an ‘Ara Blue’ paint finish. The single frame grill, the front air inlet grills and the outlet grill at the rear are finished in titanium gray. It also has a sport exhaust system with high-gloss black tailpipes.

Inside, the R8 LMX has black interior with blue accents. The folding bucket seats are covered in Fine Nappa leather with Sepang Blue diamond pattern and the backrest covers are finished in ‘Ara Blue’.

The Audi R8 LMX is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine that delivers 578 PS with 540 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. It is mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission.
