ITS South Terminal awarded to Ayala Land

A transport terminal in the outskirts of Metro Manila has been proposed as one of the major solutions in decongesting vehicular traffic and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has taken a big step forward in making it a reality.

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has just awarded the rights to construct, operate and maintain the Integrated Transport System (ITS) South Terminal to Ayala Land, Inc., which gave the lowest annual grantor payment of Php 277.8 million.

“This is the second ITS Project that we have awarded. Our goal here is to give passengers coming from the South seamless transfers to other modes of transportation, as well as help decongest traffic in the Metro.” said DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.

To complete its qualifications, Ayala Land must submit requirements to the Pre-qualification Bids and Awards Committee (PBAC) no later than 20 days from receipt of the Notice of Award (NOA).

If everything is in order, Ayala Land will design and construct the new terminal on the 5.57-hectare land in the FTI compound in Taguig.

The ITS South Terminal will then host passengers taking public utility vehicles (PUVs) from the provinces to PUVs that will take them into different parts of Metro Manila.

This way, provincial buses will not contribute to the number of vehicles that travel on city roads and lessen the amount of traffic inside Metro Manila.

Ayala Land, Inc. is contracted to handle all the operation and maintenance of the ITS South Terminal for a period of 35 years.

Construction is set to being in August 2016, target completion date is January 2018 and projected start of operations is February 2018.
