Mercedes-AMG GT S sets sights on 911 Carrera S
Mercedes-Benz made a grand debut with the AMG GT S at the 2015 Bangkok International Motor Show. The GT S is the second model to be developed exclusively by performance car department Mercedes-AMG.
The lightweight aluminum spaceframe is combined with an intelligent mix of steel and magnesium. This is clad with an emotive exterior design that exudes sportiness that tickles the senses. It is fitted with LED high-performance headlamps, extendable rear airfoil, panoramic sliding glass roof, long bonnet with pronounced power domes, and a broad tail end with a dramatic tapered effect. This is finished off with 10-spoke AMG lightweight alloy wheels (19-inch front, 20-inch rear) in Titanium Grey.
The sporty driver-centric interior is a combination of fine-grain nappa leather, Dinamica microfiber, aluminum and carbon fiber elements.
Under the hood is a front mid-mounted 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo rated at 517 PS @ 6250 rpm and 650 Nm of torque @ 1750-4750 rpm, this is mated to an AMG Speedshift 7-speed DCT. The front mid-engine configuration gives it a 47:53 weight distribution and it also comes with a dry sump lubrication setup used in race cars to ensure oil supply even with high lateral forces.
It comes with AMG Ride Control sports suspension allowing the driver to switch between three modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport+). Other features include Adaptive brakes with hold and hill-start assist, attention assist, ESP and Speedtronic adaptive cruise control.
