Available with a wide array of diesel- and gasoline-fed engines

BMW has officially revealed the 2-Series Gran Tourer, an MPV dubbed by the company as the 'world's first premium compact model to offer up to seven seats'.

Essentially a larger version of the 2-Series Active Tourer, it is longer and taller than the compact MPV though it retains the 1,800mm width. It measures 4,556mm long and 1,608mm tall which allows ample cargo space along with a enough legroom and headroom for 7 occupants.

Much like the compact MPV, the exterior design has been kept as the front features the brand's trademark dual kidney grill and circular headlights while the rear has L-shaped taillights.

Aboard the 2-Series Gran Tourer, it has ample storage space that can extend from 645 to 805 liters. A much larger 1,905 liter storage space can be achieved when the rear-seat backrests are folded down.

Additionally, it has a 40:20:20 seating configuration when fitted with the optional third row seating. Other amenities available for the 2-Series Gran Tourer include: Heads-Up Display and Traffic Jam Assistant.

It will be available with five different engines: two gasoline fed units and three diesel driven motors. First up is the 218i which uses a 1.5-liter TwinTurbo Power inline-three that generates 136 PS and 220 Nm of torque and is followed by the 220i that makes use of a 2.0-liter TwinTurbo Power inline-four that produces 192 PS and 280 Nm of torque.

For the diesel engines, the entry level 216d gets a 1.5-liter TwinTurbo Power inline-three that puts out 116 PS and 270 Nm of torque, followed by the 218d which runs on a TwinTurbo Power inline-four that cranks out 150 PS and 330 Nm of torque. At the top of the diesel range is the 220d xDrive which uses a more powerful 2.0-liter TwinTurbo Power inline-four that delivers 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque to all four wheels.
