BMW's new engines and tech upgrades will debut on July 2015

BMW has announced a number of model upgrades starting July 2015 which includes new powertrains and tech updates. The vehicles included in the said model upgrades are the BMW 1 Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series and X5.

The 3-door and 5-door versions of the BMW 118i Series range will be fitted with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that delivers 136 PS. The German automaker claims that it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds (8.7 seconds with automatic).

BMW 2 Series Convertible 

The BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible will have two new diesel engines for the 218d Coupe and the 225d Coupe. The 218d Coupe will be powered by a 152 PS diesel engine while the 225d Coupe generates a maximum power output of 227 PS.

On the other hand, BMW will offer the brand's xDrive all-wheel drive system for the 2 Series Convertible. With this, the German automaker said that the M235i produces 331 PS and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

The 2 Series Gran Tourer will have three new engines. With this, the 216i Gran Tourer will be fitted with a 103 PS three-cylinder gasoline engine while the 214d will get a 96 PS three-cylinder diesel engine and the 220d will have a 193 PS four-cylinder diesel engine.

BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo

The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, 4 Series Convertible, 4 Series Gran Coupe and X5 will feature the brand's latest TwinPower Turbo technology and will also profit from the new generation change of four-cylinder diesel engines. The BMW 318d Gran Turismo and the 320d gets a 7 PS power increase to 152 PS and 190 PS respectively. The BMW 420d Convertible will be equipped with the same 193 PS diesel engine while the 418d Gran Coupe will have a 152 PS engine.


BMW said that the most powerful representative of the new generation of four-cylinder diesel engines will make its debut in the Sports Activity Vehicle segment in August 2015. With this, the X5 will be powered by a four-cylinder engine that delivers 234 PS and 500 Nm of torque. BMW adds that the sDrive25d and xDrive25d can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.
