BMW introduces the 2 Series Coupe today. It is the brand’s latest entry to the premium subcompact segment, and is expected to deliver the performance and ability BMW cars are known for. The car continues to integrate the classic three-box design prevalent among the BMW roster in its two-door body.

The new BMW will be larger than its predecessor, the 1 Series Coupe. It will be 4,432 mm long and 1,774 mm wide, giving the vehicle a wider stance and more space inside the cabin.

The 2 Series Coupe will benefit from the BMW TwinPower Turbo technology equipped to two engine options: the 2.0-liter inline-4 engine capable of 243 PS and 350 Nm of torque; and the 3.0-liter inline-6 engine capable of 326 PS and 450 Nm of torque. The 228i Coupe will be the first subcompact BMW model to get its power from the 2.0-liter engine mentioned while the M235i will be powered by the more powerful 3.0-liter engine. Efficiency is improved through the use of the BMW EfficientDynamics technology that includes the Air Curtains, Auto Start/Stop function, and ECO PRO mode via the Driving Experience Control.

Performance wise, the 228i can accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 210 km/h. On the other hand, the M235i can accelerate from a stand still to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.

For the driver’s comfort, the car is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control and iDrive operating system. Optional amenities include BMW ConnectedDrive, High Beam Assistant, Adaptive Headlights, Parking Assistant, Driving Assistant, Advanced Real Time Traffic Information, and other BMW Apps.

The BMW 2 Series will be out on the market by 2014.
