Having deemed that that the Metro Manila market wasn't saturated enough with its Munich-based auto products, BMW Philippines recently held its BMW XPo at the Ford Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

A highlight of the event was the debut of three variants in its wide model range the BMW 1-Series and 3-Series Limited Editon, and the 3.0si and 2.5i Z4 roadsters.

One and three, making rich folks glee

Representing the "exciting new shades of BMW", these latest additions to the BMW family are exclusively available in eye-catching alpine white, electric red and black. Based on the successful BMW 320i Executive, the 3-Series Limited Edition is powered by a 2.0L in-line four-cylinder, 150 hp engine that is capable of hitting 215 kph.

The new BMW 320i Limited Edition is further distinguished through its unique BMW Comfort Access system. It works through a radio transmitter in the specially designed BMW key fob. Once the key is within vehicle range whether in the driver's pocket, briefcase, or even a handbag the vehicle doors automatically unlock upon recognizing the signal from the ID Sensor. This feature provides added convenience, since the driver can easily access the car while, for instance, carrying baggage.

This intelligent system likewise links with the BMW Motorsport-inspired Start-Stop Button, allowing the driver to turn the engine on or off at a simple button touch. With Comfort Access, the need to retrieve a key and insert it in an orthodox ignition slot in order to move the vehicle is no longer needed.

Once the car is parked, Comfort Access automatically locks the doors and turns on the vehicle's security system once the driver holds a marked surface on the door handle after alighting and closing the door of the vehicle. Should the driver leave the key in the car, the doors will not lock and the driver will receive a warning.

In addition to having the Comfort Access system, the Php 2.69 million BMW 3-Series Limited Edition is also set apart by specially designed 17" alloy wheels that highlight its sporty and elegant character.

The new BMW 1 Series Limited Edition, on the other hand, features a 129 hp, 1,995cc, in-line four-cylinder engine that muscles the hatch to a top speed of 204 kph. Compared to the BMW 118i Executive, the Php 1.87 million 1-Series Limited Edition is equipped with a multifunction steering wheel and high-performance 17-inch light alloy wheels that highlight the car's sporty stance. It also features exclusive Sensatec Grain/Motion Fabric seat upholstery, an aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional seat material.

Catching the new Z

The BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0si features a powerful 3.0-liter straight-six cylinder engine that roars to 265 hp and 315 NMs of torque, all mated to a six-speed gearbox with paddle shifters. On the other hand, the BMW Z4 2.5i puts out 177 hp and 230 NMs of torque, linked to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Both the straight-six power units of new BMW Z4 3.0si and 2.5i come with a composite aluminium/magnesium crankcase, a bedplate structure and a cylinder head made of magnesium to reduce unsprung weight. Helping both roadsters achieve their respective hp and torque figures are fully variable Valvetronic valve control, infinite double-VANOS camshaft adjustment (to further increase camshaft timing and fuel delivery) and four valves per cylinder.

The new BMW Z4 proudly bears all the classic features of a roadster - a long and sleek engine compartment, a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a low seating position moved far to the back. The new body likewise totes a spacious cockpit with sports-contoured seats and a boot (with variable roof box) providing load volume of up to 260 liters or 9.1 cubic feet.

A wide track, a low center of gravity, optimum 50:50 axle load distribution and electric power steering give the new Z4 its outstanding agility. Fade-free high-performance brakes, standard runflat tires and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC III) with an on-demand traction mode additionally offer great driving safety.
