Taking on the new class
BMW diversifies their model range again with another new line, the 6-Series Gran Coupe. The model is meant to compete against the likes of the premium “4-door coupe” class with the Audi A7, Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class and the Porsche Panamera.
BMW engineered the 6-Series Gran Coupe to convey an elegant design, a luxurious interior, travel comfort and practicality, as well as the sheer driving pleasure that brand has been known for. Internally, the 6-Series Gran Coupe is codenamed the F06.
Exterior design and dimensions
The exterior of the F06 is strikingly BMW, with a low-slung appearance, premium details and the signature twin kidney grilles. BMW sought to create a coupe-style roofline (akin to a fastback), with eye catching deftails like the LED lights, twin round headlamps with the light rings, the Hofmeister kink and others. Several body panels also use lightweight aluminum for better fuel economy and handling.
The F06 measures 5007mm long with a wheelbase of 2968mm. Trunk space expands from the standard 460 liters to 1265 liters with the rear seats down.
Interior design and features
As per BMW's style, the interior features a driver centric cockpit, flowing door panels and other details. The cabin is a 4+1 seater, and comes with cruise control, electric heated mirrors, Dakota leather upholstery, heated seats, automatically dimming exterior wing mirrors and rear view mirrors, as well as BMW's Radio Professional audio system with a centrally mounted LCD screen controlled via a multi-way knob on the center console.
Powertrain and suspension
Locally, ACC-BMW is bringing in the BMW 640i Gran Coupe. The engine at the heart of the 640i is a 3.0 liter inline-6, which -thanks to twin scroll turbos and direct injection- produces 320 horsepower and 450 Nm. The engine is matched with an 8-speed automatic, and together with EfficientDynamics technologies (ECO PRO, Auto Start/Stop, etc.) improve fuel economy to a claimed average consumption of 7.7-7.9 liters per 100 kilometers (12.7-13.0 km/l). In full acceleration, the 640i can reach 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds.
Safety and security
For safety the 640i Gran Coupe is outfitted with all of BMW's safety technologies like Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Corner Brake Control, ABS, EBD, BA, front, side and curtain airbags, as well as the convenience of the smart key.
The available variant in the Philippines is the BMW 640i Gran Coupe and retails at P7.790,000.
