The ONE is back
Recently, BMW gave more details on the all new 1-Series; the second generation of this pioneering premium compact car, and still the only rear-wheel-drive model in its class. It is expected to make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Auto Show this September.
The body of the new BMW 1 Series is 85 millimeters longer than its predecessor, while the wheelbase has lengthened by 30 millimeters. Overall with is widened by 17 millimeters, the rear seats have 21 millimeters more legroom, and the luggage compartment has expanded by 30 liters to 360 liters.
For the first time the petrol and diesel engines for the BMW 1 Series now feature BMW's new TwinPower Turbo technology, along with a new generation of 1.6-liter petrol engines.The BMW 116i gets 136 PS, while the BMW 118i gets 170 PS. Radically redesigned 2.0-liter diesel engines can also be found in the new 1-Series with the 116d delivering 116 PS the118d with 143 PS, and lastly the 120d with 184 PS. All variants come with 6 speed manual transmissions as standard with an option of an eight-speed automatic transmission, the only compact car to have it as an option.
As for exterior design, the front of the car is dominated by the large BMW kidney grille, The typical BMW double-round headlights have accent trim across their tops. The slightly sloping roof line, sporty, angled rear windscreen and flat side windows give the car a coupe like feel, while the Hofmeister kink is also present.
