BMW Philippines and Petron Corporation thought of the transportation needs of the different heads of state that will be present at the 11-13 December 2006 ASEAN Summit and recently presented themselves to the media as official partners of this December's ASEAN Summit chairmanship.

"Global leaders deserve the privilege of sheer driving pleasure in order to make fast, practical and sound choices for the benefit of millions," said Dr. Joerg Breuer, President of BMW Philippines.

To be held at the Cebu-based Shangri-La Hotel Mactan, BMW will provide more than 50 units of the current model 5-Series and 7-Series for the heads of state of the ten member countries Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam along with the heads of delegations from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand that will be present at the said summit. Vehicles in particular to be provided as transportation to and from the conference sites will be the diesel-fed 520d and gasoline-powered 735Li. "The vehicles have a combined market value of over P 300 million, and will be coming straight from Germany in time for the summit. After the talks, the cars will be distributed separately with most units to be delivered to pre-booked customers around the country, while others will be shipped back to BMW headquarters in Germany," said BMW Philippines corporate communications and marketing director Lito German.

Aside from providing the luxury vehicles, BMW Philippines will also extend comprehensive logistical support in the form of special training for the units' drivers, special tools and proprietary diagnostic equipment, the attendance of service experts from BMW AG headquarters in Munich (Germany), extended technical support from the sole Cebu BMW dealership (Performance Auto BMW) and the availability of a BMW ServiceMobile for quick and easy maintenance and troubleshooting. "This comes on the heels of BMW's experience in handling events of this magnitude, such as the 2003 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit in Thailand, last year's ASEAN Summit in Malaysia and this year's IMF (International Monetary Fund)-World Bank conference in Singapore where over 200 current model 7-series units were used as official transportation for the people participating in the aforementioned events. Our fleet special service program experience also extends to providing transportation and technological support for the Philippine visits of certain countries' royal families, such as the philanthropic visits of Monaco's Princess Caroline in 2005 and Britain's Prince Andreas early this year. This expertise, along with BMW Philippines' technical capabilities and the fact that we have a Cebu-based dealership in Performance Auto BMW gave confidence to join forces with the government in making the summit a transportation success," said Mr. German.

In addition, BMW has partnered with Petron in support of the 2006 ASEAN Summit. As such, all BMW vehicles to be used at the ASEAN Summit will be powered by premium, high-grade fuel (Petron Diesel Max for the 520d and Petron Blaze for the 735Li) for optimal performance and engine protection. As such, the vehicles will be refueled in selected Petron service stations in Cebu. "These people deserve vehicles that can carry them from point A to point B in the fastest possible time, yet give them good mileage and offer a bit of escapism from the pressures of public office. We feel that Petron Diesel Max and Petron Blaze can give the BMW cars great fuel consumption rates and optimum power", said Petron Corporation president Jorge Campos.
