Caterham details the Super Seven 270, 360 and 420
New variants of Caterham's Super Seven were recently detailed by the automaker which will replace some of the brand's existing models and reduce overall core models to five.
First up is Super Seven 270 which is powered by Ford's latest generation 1.6-liter Sigma engine that cranks out 136 PS at 6,800 rpm and 165 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm. It produces 10 PS more than the outgoing Roadsport 125, can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 196 km/h.
Next is the Super Seven 360 which replaces the outgoing Roadsport 175 Supersport R. It houses a Ford 2.0-liter Duratec engine that delivers 183 PS at 7,300 rpm and a torque figure of 194 Nm at 6,100 rpm. It can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 209 km/h.
The most powerful of the new models is the Super Seven 420. Billed by the company to succeed the Superlight R400, it is also powered by the 2.0-liter Duratec engine but benefits from some modifications including a dry sump lubrication among others. In total, it is able to put out 213 PS at 7,600 rpm along with 203 Nm of torque at 6,300 rpm. Zero to a hundred kilometers comes in at just 3.8 seconds while top speed is rated at 219 km/h.
All three new models come standard with a 5-speed gearbox, 14-inch alloys wrapped in Avon tires, four-disc brakes, adjustable cloth seats and a Motolita steering wheel.
Caterham is also offering 'S' and 'R' packs for each new variants. The S pack is geared for road-going Super Sevens and comes with a fully carpeted interior, a complete windscreen with side and hood screens, black leather seats and a Momo steering wheel.
The R pack on the other hand is suited for track-use and gets additional performance upgrades like a limited slip differential, lightweight flywheel, sport suspension, lightweight 15-inch Orcus alloy wheels and an upgraded brake master cylinder. Inside it has a carbon fiber dashboard, composite seats and a 4-point racing harness.
