BMW Vision Car concept features AirTouch technology

BMW has released a teaser photo of the Vision Car concept ahead of its debut at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

Based on the image, the Vision Car concept appears to have a large touchscreen display placed on the dashboard. BMW says the Vision Car concept is designed to “demonstrate what the interior and the user interface of the future might look like.”

With that in mind, the German automaker confirmed that AirTouch technology will be integrated into the Vision Car concept. The AirTouch tech allows occupants to control the entertainment, navigation and communication functions using simple hand gestures. BMW adds that the said technology allows the display to be operated like a touchscreen without actually having to make contact with the surface.

Meanwhile, this technology is available as BMW Gesture Control in the new 7-Series, but the automaker says the AirTouch technology is equipped with sensors which respond to hand movements and allows three-dimensional control.
