Powered by a Earth Dreams 3.5-liter V6 with cylinder deactivation technology
After showing the silhouette of the next-generation Honda Pilot two weeks ago, the Japanese automaker recently revealed the 2016 Honda Pilot at this year's Chicago Auto Show. Still designed and built in America, the company claims that the third-generation Pilot redefines the midsize 8-seater SUV as it now has modern styling and features, along with an Earth Dreams powertrain.
Honda describes the exterior of the all-new Pilot of having a sleek yet commanding form. It has LED projector headlights along with a three-bar grill design at the front while the side features 20-inch wheels. The rear on the other hand gets P-shaped LED taillights.
Now measuring 89mm longer, overall interior and storage space has been improved as users can now store a 90-liter cooler at the back without having to fold down the third row seats. Third row entry and alighting has also been made easier as the second row seats now feature an automatic slide and tilt function.
Available amenities for the 2016 Honda Pilot include: heated and ventilated first and second row seats, 'captain seats' for the second row, five USB ports, a HDMI port, two 12-volt power outlets and a 115-volt power outlet.
It also has an 8-inch Display Audio system that runs on an Android-based operating system, along with the new Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. Available as an option is a 9-inch rear entertainment system that comes with DVD and Blu-Ray compatibility.
Under the hood, it is powered by a Earth Dreams 3.5-liter direct injection V6 that has Variable Cylinder Management, the company's version of a cylinder deactivation system. No exact power outputs were given by Honda but they did state that it will have Idle Stop and can be mated to a 6-speed or 9-speed automatic gearbox. It comes standard in FWD but can be had in AWD setting.
Standard safety features available on the 2016 Honda Pilot include: anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Traction Control, dual-stage front airbags, side and side-curtain airbags and a new Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPSM).
It will go on sale in the US come summer, Honda PH has yet to confirm if they will be offering the new Pilot to replace the outgoing model it sells locally.
