LTO outlines plan to address plate and license supply issues
The head of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Assistant Secretary Gen. Edgar Galvante (Ret.), stated that his agency is working to normalize the supply of vehicle license plates and plastic driver's license cards.
Gen. Galvante said that the LTO is targetting to have the supply of plates and plastic license cards by the second quarter of 2017, following the pending resolution of the problem with the suppliers of the vehicle plates. It was also stated by Gen. Galvante that the department is currently assisting those with a priority need for their license plates, particularly overseas workers who depend on having a proper Philippine license for employment abroad.
The announcement came at the press conference where the Department of Transportation (DOTr) where officials of the department and its agencies outlined their accomplishments and progress over their first 100 days since the Duterte administration took office. The press conference was presided over by DOTr Secretary Arthur P. Tugade while all the Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, and other agency heads presented their progress in addressing transport issues by land, sea, air, and rail.
The LTO Assistant Secretary also stated that the new 5-year validity of licenses will commence on October 10, 2016, and the department will start issuing licenses reflecting the extended validity. Galvante also said that the extended validity licenses will be fully implemented nationwide by the end of November 2016.
