DuPont automotive paints gets a fresh new name.

After decades of being known as DuPont Refinish, it seems that the brand associated with premiere automotive paints and coats is itself getting painted to be something new.

Now reorganized under a new parent company known as Axalta Coating Systems, DuPont Refinish is now rebranded as Cromax. The new Cromax brand serves as a new communications tool for Axalta, and promises to help customers in “driving productivity from the front of the body shop to the back”.

The history of the former DuPont brand stretches back to the 1920s with Duco and Dulux. In the 1930s DuPont invented the first paint mixing machine, followed on by Lucite acrylic lacquer in the 1950s and Centari acrylic enamel in the 1960s, a paint still used to this day. Cromax was initially introduced in Europe in the 1990s along with MasterTint, and in the 2000s was followed by Cromax waterborne basecoat and ChromaPremier Pro.

Today the company reorganizes itself as Cromax, and will offer the same leading product portfolio with a fresh new look.
