For greater e-nnovations
Electric vehicles from around the country converged at the Meralco compound in Pasig City to gather for the 2nd Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, a convention that aims to reduce the country's dependency on fossil fuel through the use of EVs.
Hosted by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) headed by Rommel Juan of MD Juan Enterprises (the company that makes reproduction Willys Jeep bodies), the EV Summit discussed the state of development of the EV industry in the country, what the association will do, and what is in store for the industry's future. The event was attended by high ranking government officials, business tycoons, as well as international delegates from Taiwan, Korea and Japan.
The event was held at the Meralco Gymnasium hall, with the parking lot used as a display area for the many EVs -whether on two, three, four or even six wheels- available or soon to be available in the country. The notable vehicles in attendance included the Mitsubishi MiEV that attendees can test drive, the Electric MB Jeep by MD Juan and other E-Jeepneys and E-Tricycles from various manufacturers and companies. An electric bus was also amongst the vehicles present and many electric motorcycles and scooters.
The EV Summit by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines is the 2nd time they've held the event. The first one was also held within the Meralco compound back in November 2010. This year's event began yesterday and will conclude today, May 25.
If you wish to see the state of the EV industry in the country, trot on over to the Meralco compound. You can even drive a few of them.
