Focused on a recordIn a strenuous challenge that took 4 examples of the Ford Focus TDCI from Sorsogon to Pagudpod, the Ford Focus Coast2Coast Challenge 2 has just set a new record at 1,432.5 kilometers on one full tank of diesel.
Unlike previous fuel economy runs, the Ford Focus Coast2Coast Challenge 2 was driven from south to north, beginning at the seaside towns of Sorsogon and culminating at the beach paradise of Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte.
4 teams took part in the event: Team AutoIndustriya consisting of Inigo Roces and Vince Pornelos, Team Top Gear with Mikko David and Marlon Dacumos, Team AutoReview with Ron and Reyra Delos Reyes, and Team Tuason Racing School with JP Tuason and Bjorn Ongtiabok.
Sponsored by Shell and Goodyear, the Ford Coast2Coast Challenge 2 set out to break all records and put the capabilities and economy of the Ford Focus TDCI to the ultimate test. After filling the cars to the brim and sealing the lids, the teams were off, utilizing the power and torque of the 2.0L DuraTorq TDCI engine to achieve the best economy figures available.
The teams were faced with everyday road conditions like traffic, the sweltering heat and other hazards, but after 4 long days of driving, Team AutoIndustriya.com was the first to run out of fuel, clocking in a total of 1,300.5 kilometers. Team Top Gear registered 1,347.8 kilometers, while Team AutoReview was several more kilometers ahead at 1,375.9. It was Team TRS that broke the record, with 1,432 kilometers registered after running out of fuel.
Stay tuned for more news on this record breaking run in the future.
