Ford refreshes the Focus for 2016 with updated exterior, new EcoBoost engine
Ford's compact competitor has just received a major upgrade in both looks and technology as Ford Philippines recently launched the 2016 Focus. Billed by the company to be smarter and more refined, it has a sleeker exterior design, new driver assist features and a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost powerplant.
Starting from the outside, it now features Ford's global design theme which consist of a trapezoidal grill, tapered headlights that wraparound the fenders and new elongated fog lamps. The side profile relatively remains the same, apart from the addition of new 18-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels, depending on the variant.
The rear section receives subtle revisions as well. For the hatchback, it gets smaller wraparound taillights, a new spoiler and a more pronounced diffuser-integrated bumper. The sedan on the other hand has an updated taillight cluster with thinner indicator lamps and a trunk-mounted spoiler that is available in both sedan models.
Size-wise, the 2016 Focus hatchback measures 4,354mm long (4,358mm long sedan), 1,823mm wide (including side mirrors), 1,484mm tall and has a wheelbase measurement of 2,650mm.
Aboard the 2016 Focus, both the range-topping Sport+ hatchback and Titanium+ sedan have 6-way power adjustable front seats, paddle shifters, 8-inch infotainment system with SYNC 2 and dual-zone climate control. On the other hand, the base Sport and Titanium models have manually-adjustable seats, 4.2-inch display with SYNC and a single manual aircon.
Powering all variants is a 1.5-liter inline-four EcoBoost GTDI that doles out 180 PS at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque available between 1,600 – 5,000 rpm. It is then mated to a new 6-speed automatic gearbox (not a dual clutch) and comes with a torque vectoring system that is standard on all models.
Other features that are present in all variants are anti-lock brakes, dual front and side airbags, Hill Launch Assist, traction control and Park Lock Control. Cruise control is only available in the range-topping models.
It also has the Enhanced Active Park Assist (with simpler and easier instructions, and more intuitive manual overrides), which makes for easier parallel/perpendicular parking and comes with a Park Out Assist. This feature, along with Active City Stop, is only available for the Sport+ and Titanium+.
“The new Focus is one of our smartest cars ever. We wanted to ensure that our customers experience ease, comfort and advantages in usability that these technologies bring," said Kay Hart, Managing Director of Ford Philippines.
Available colors for the updated Focus include: Frozen White, Panther Black, Ingot Silver, Winning Blue, Magnetic Metallic, Lunar Sky, Candy Red and Mustard Olive.
