Patent available through the AutoHarvest Foundation

The Ford Motor Company has announced plans to share their EV related patents with other car manufacturers. Ford is the second manufacturer after Tesla Motors to its EV patents which they did last year.

While Tesla's patents are for free, Ford's EV patent comes with a fee if other manufacturers want to use it. At the moment, Ford says they have around 1,000 pending patent applications related to electric vehicle technologies. The current Ford vehicles with EV technologies are the Ford Fusion and C-Max Hybrid, Ford Fusion Energi, Ford C-Max Energi and the Ford Focus Electric. Ford has also made hybrid models for the Escape, which was their hybrid car, and the previous generation Ford Fusion.

Ford is investing more on electric vehicles and currently pursuing further development for its EV technologies. The company has hired 200 more electrical engineers for their Ford Engineering Laboratories in Dearborn.

There will be two ways for manufacturers to acquire some of Ford's EV patents. One way is though the firm's technology commercialization and licensing office or through the AutoHarvest Foundation.
