Honda City owners were amazed at the fuel consumption results of their cars during the recently concluded second leg of this year's Xtra Amazing Fuel Eco Run.

Honda, in cooperation with Petron embarked on this 4-series fuel economy event to drum up awareness on efficient driving techniques in the face of spiraling gasoline costs. Traversing a total of 45 kilometers of highway and city driving, participants squeezed in amazing fuel mileage in their Honda City carrying the very fuel-efficient I-DSI engine.

New Honda car owner Joaquin Ladrido could not believe he was able to drive around Metro Manila cruising through Pasay, Manila, Quezon City and Caloocan with traffic, consuming less than 2 liters of gasoline only. His official record posted an unbelievable 23 kilometers per liter.

"My wife and I are very pleased with the results and we're looking forward to participating in the next legs if given the chance," Ladrido said.

Novice driver Arabella Ricafort has been driving for only a few months but she was able to beat the other participants using her manual transmission City as she topped the run with 28 kilometers per liter.

A total of 23 customer teams and 7 media teams competed in the event posting amazing results in fuel consumption. Co-sponsored by Pioneer, Motolite and BPI/MS Insurance, this year's winners are: Arabella Ricafort posting (City MT: 28.22 km/li); Patrick Chua garnering (City CVT: 25.25 km/li); Dino Directo and Ferdie Baja (media: City CVT: 24.83 km/li); and, Aris Ilagan and Raymond Young (Jazz CVT: 23.97 km/li).

Participants followed a fixed route traveling through Roxas Boulevard (from Pasay to Kaloocan) and along EDSA (from Kaloocan to Pasay). Various road works along EDSA created heavy traffic which made the run more challenging as participants applied all permissible fuel-economizing techniques to achieve the least fuel consumption. Totaling 45 kilometers, participants took an average of two hours to finish the whole run.

Department of Energy representatives Director Mario Marasigan and Antonio Nabong graced the event and encouraged participants to support the government's program in conserving energy through employing efficient and effective driving techniques.

All participants were treated to lunch and winners awarded at Grappa's in Harbor Square at the end of the run. Each winner was rewarded P5,000 in cash and P5,000 worth of Petron gasoline including a free Honda Hydrophilic Paint job. The next legs are scheduled on January 14 and 28, 2006.
