The Adam S Concept gets turbocharged, sports-tuned inside and out and with distinct livery.
The subcompact Adam, which is Vauxhall-branded in Great Britain but known as an Opel everywhere else, will soon have a sibling – a more powerful one.
At the upcoming 84th Geneva Motor Show, Opel is set to unveil the performance trim, Adam S Concept. It will retain all physical traits of its predecessor but will have something better under the hood.
This close-to-production concept sports a 1.4-liter Turbo ECOTEC engine putting out 150PS and 220Nm of torque. It will also come with a sports-tuned suspension, VXR braking system and ‘distinctive ‘Red ’n Roll’ styling.’
The turbocharged engine was developed from the same Adam’s four-cylinder 1.4L powerplant for the exclusive use of the Adam S Concept. It has continuously variable valve timing and a turbocharger that has been integrated within the exhaust manifold to make it more compact and reduce weight. After all the work it received, it now delivers 50% more horsepower and 70% more torque. It is sends power to a six-speed manual transmission and takes the Adam S Concept to a top speed of 137mph.
Start/Stop technology comes standard and the Adam S Concept is already Euro 6 compliant.
The chassis is ‘specially-tuned’ for performance and along with the steering was also developed exclusively for the Adam S Concept. With a performance engine comes bigger VXR performance 'S' Red Brakes, which includes a 16-inch front and 15-inch rear discs featuring red-painted calipers.
The ADAM S Concept also showcases an exclusive ‘Red ’n Roll’ design to distinguish it from its predecessor. It is two-toned with red on the body and and anthracite grey roof with special rear spoiler. Completing the bold appearance is a front lip spoiler, side sill moldings and an extended rear bumper cut-out with a visible, bold exhaust tailpipe.
Inside the Adam S Concept are Recaro Performance seats in Morrocana and leather and follows the unique Red ’n Roll design theme. It has a red leather-trimmed steering wheel, gearshift and handbrake along with distinctive red and white flashes on the instrument and door panels.
Other features of the ADAM S Concept are black rear privacy glass, LED daytime running and rear tail lights, electronic climate control and Opel’s sophisticated IntelliLink system that offers state-of-the-art connectivity and apps.
