Astra VXR Extreme's 2.0L engine is capable of generating over 300PS.

The 84th Geneva Motor Show kicks off next week and anticipation is high for Vauxhall’s presentation of their most capable front wheel drive yet: the Astra VXR Extreme.

Being based on the race car that competed in the Nürburgring Endurance Championship is the closest the Astra VXR Extreme will ever get to the Astra Cup.  With so many modifications to make it the consummate performer on the road, it will stand out by its own merit.

Its 2.0-liter turbo all-aluminum engine that generates over 300PS and has direct injection and variable camshaft phasing is the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever produced by Vauxhall.  The transmission is a six-speed manual gearbox transmitting power through a limited-slip differential.

It is 100kg lighter than the current Astra VXR because of the ‘liberal use of high-quality carbon components’ on the aerodynamically-optimised rear wing, the diffuser, front spoiler, bonnet, suspension cross-bracing, engine cover, wheels, rear wheelhouse ventilation and roof.  This lowers the Astra VXR Extreme’s center of gravity and improves agility, handling and its power-to-weight-ration.

With all that power comes great stopping ability provided by a Brembo six-piston brake system including 370mm diameter discs up front race car and high-performance 245/35, 19-inch tires and just like a touring car, the damper is adjustable.

The interior is spec’d out for racing with roll bars and Recaro bucket seat up front and no rear seats. It also sports six-point safety belts from Schroth and a carbon-fibre-reinforced steering wheel with fine yellow decorative stitching.

The UK is Vauxhall biggest market with the Astra VXR being their best-selling VXR.  Vauxhall initially plans a low-volume production of the Astra VXR EXTREME but can increase it if sales pick up.
