Audi strengthens presence in the booming SUV segment
Audi has revealed the Q2 at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, strengthening the brand's presence in the booming SUV segment.
The Q2 joins Audi's SUV lineup that includes the Q3, the Q5 and the Q7. The German automaker said that the Q2 is specifically designed for young customers.
Design-wise, the Q2 is equipped with the brand's single frame front grill in octagonal design, blacked-out headlights, a large bumper, a sculpted hood and large air inlets. The front end of the vehicle is also accented by silver trims.
Turning at the side, you can see that vehicle's sloping roofline along with clean character lines and wide wheel arches.
The rear of the Q2 comes with LED signature taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler, a muscular bumper and dual chrome-plated exhaust pipes.
Audi's new compact SUV measures 4190mm long, 1790mm wide and 1510mm tall along with a wheelbase of 2600mm.
The interior of the Q2 features a two-tone theme of red and black. It has a three-spoke steering wheel, round aircon vents and Audi's MMI screen that is positioned high on the instrument panel. Audi added that the infotainment system can be operated by a rotary/push-button control and two buttons on the center console.
In addition, the Q2 features driver assistance systems including the company's 'pre sense front' which recognizes critical situations with other vehicles as well as pedestrians crossing in front of the vehicle, and if necessary it can initiate hard braking.
A number of engine options are available for the Audi Q2. The vehicle can be powered by a 1.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine; a 1.4- or a 2.0-liter TFSI unit. Over to the diesel engines, the Q2 can be equipped with a 1.6-liter or a 2.0-liter TDI engine. Audi said that power output varies from 118 PS to 193 PS. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission or to an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
