Hyundai Ioniq to rival the Toyota Prius
Hyundai has revealed its first dedicated hybrid model called Ioniq at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show.
In a nutshell, the Ioniq can be specified as a fully electric or a plug-in hybrid vehicle that is set to rival the Toyota Prius. During the show, Hyundai has introduced the full line-up of the Ioniq which consists of: the Ioniq Hybrid, the Ioniq Electric and the Ioniq Plug-in. With that in mind, Hyundai said that the Ioniq is the world's first model offering three electrified powertrains.
The exterior of the Ioniq is integrated with aerodynamic body lines that reduces drag. The front end of the vehicle has a gloss black grill, a large bumper and blacked-out headlights.
The side profile of Hyundai's electric vehicle has a straight character line that extends all the way to the rear. The Ioniq is also fitted with wraparound taillights, a muscular bumper and a spoiler.
The Ioniq gets a black interior along with a flat-bottomed steering wheel and blue accent. The vehicle also has a driver-oriented interior styling. It also has a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster as well as connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Hyundai said that the Ioniq Hybrid anf the Ioniq Plug-in both feature a Kappa 1.6-liter GDI direct injection gasoline engine that delivers 105 PS and 147 Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed double clutch transmission.
The Ioniq Hybrid's 1.6-liter engine works together with an electric motor that generates 43.5 PS and a maximum torque of 170 Nm, powered by a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion-polymer battery. Combined, the Ioniq Hybrid produces 141 PS and up to 265 Nm, allowing the vehicle to hit a top speed of 185 km/h.
On the other hand, Hyundai claims that the Ioniq Plug-in has over 50 km of electric driving range.
Lastly, the Ioniq Electric offers pure e-mobility through a 28 kWh lithium-ion-polymer battery for an estimated range of over 250 km. The electric motor produces 120 PS and 295 Nm of torque.
