Mercedes-Benz C-Class drops its top in Geneva

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the first ever C-Class Cabriolet during this year's Geneva International Motor Show.

The C-Class Cabriolet will take on the likes of the Audi A3 Cabriolet and BMW 4 Series Convertible. Based on the C-Class Coupe, Mercedes-Benz's open top vehicle is fitted with a diamond radiator grill, LED headlights, a long hood and a large bumper. Turning at the side, the C-Class Cabriolet has a high chrome plated beltline, sharp character lines and prominent wheel arches.

The rear comes with wraparound LED taillight, a muscular bumper, a diffuser and dual exhaust pipes finished in chrome. The C-Class Cabriolet also has a power retractable soft top that can be opened or closed in less than 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The topless C-Class is finished off with 18-inch alloy wheels.

In terms of dimensions, the C-Class Cabriolet measures 4686mm long, 1810mm wide and 1409mm tall along with a wheelbase of 2840mm.

The interior of the C-Class Cabriolet features a two-tone theme along with silver and glossy black accent. It has a flat-bottomed steering wheel, round aircon vents and a tab-like infotainment system. Moreover, the vehicle comes with an 'Airscarf' neck-level heating system and an optional heat-reflecting leather seats.

The rear seats are in the form of individual seats that can be completely folded down. There's also a curved switch in matt silver chrome in the center console for opening and closing the fully automatic cabriolet soft top.

The C-Class Cabriolet will be offered with a choice of two diesel and six gasoline engines. The C 220 d generates 172 PS and 400 Nm of torque while the C 250 d delivers 207 PS and 500 Nm.

The six available gasoline engine are the following:

(1) C 180: 158 PS / 250 Nm; (2) C 200: 187 PS / 300 Nm; (3) C 250: 214 PS / 350 Nm; (4) C 300: 248 PS / 370 Nm; (5) C 400: 338 PS / 480 Nm; and (6) C 43: 372 PS / 520 Nm.

Mercedes-AMG 4Matic Cabriolet

On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz has also introduced the Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic Cabriolet. It is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline engine that puts out 372 PS. Mercedes-Benz claims that the C43 4Matic Cabriolet can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. In addition, the Mercedes-AMG 4Matic Cabriolet gets an AMG body kit, sportier seats and a bespoke steering wheel.
