Ferrari 812 Superfast revealed ahead of Geneva, generates 800 PS
The fastest V12-powered stallion from Maranello will be making its official debut soon at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. Called the Ferrari 812 Superfast, it is the Prancing Horse's most powerful and regular production car to date that aims to deliver exhilarating driving both on road and on the track.
The driving force of the 812 Superfast is a naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 that cranks out 800 PS at 8500 rpm along with 718 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm. This was made possible after Ferrari used a 350-bar direct injection system for the first time on a high performance engine. It is then paired up with variable geometry intake tracts derived from Formula 1. Delivering power to the wheels is a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
0 – 100 km/h comes in at a qucik 2.9 seconds while top speed is rated at 340 km/h.
Aside from the high-revving V12, the 812 Superfast also gets several handling upgrades. This includes an all-new electric power steering (EPS) system which Ferrari claimed will be able to fully exploit the car's performance. Also helping the car achieve agile handling is the brand's signature Side Slip Control (SSC). Now on its fifth version (5.0), Ferrari said that this allows the 812 Superfast to be controlled easier while at the same time be more fun to drive.
In terms of styling, Ferrari says that the new 812 Superfast “redefines the language of front-engined V12 Ferraris”. It has a two-box, fastback design and a high tail which is reminscent of the 1969 365 GTB4. The front fascia gets sweeping LED headlights and a very large grill. Meanwhile, flowing lines along the wheel arches, doors and rear quarter panels highlight the car's sporty nature. Topping it all off are the circular taillights, dual quad exhaust pipes and the large glass area on the liftback.
For those that are curious, Ferrari calls the special color on the 812 Superfast 'Rosso Settanta' which marks the automaker's 70th anniversary. Size-wise, the Ferrari 812 Superfast measures 4,657mm long, 1,971mm wide and 1,271mm tall.
The interior features signature Ferrari styling which include the flat-bottomed steering wheel, semi-digital instrument panel and stylish center console. Ferrari added that they made cabin sportier while integrating a floating design. Other than that, new sporty ergonomic seats, updated human-machine interface (HMI) and latest infotainment system make their way in the 812 Superfast.
