Volkswagen partially reveals CC successor

Back in November, Volkswagen sketched out their next-generation four door coupe. As the 2017 Geneva Motor Show draws closer, the automaker has released a teaser, partially revealing the sleeker version of the Passat.

Dubbed the Arteon, Volkswagen hails it as the successor of the CC four-door coupe. With this preview, it shows that the Arteon remains faithful to Sport Coupe Concept GTE which was shown 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Like the concept, the production model's headlight sweeps upwards with one of the slats of the grill serving as a design element.

Towards the rear, it gets a variation of the concept's tail lights, slightly toned down for production. Still, it features full-LED units. Like the the current CC, the Arteon also features an integrated trunk lip spoiler but has been given a steeper angle for a bolder design. It also gains a third window on its side and retains a coupe-like roofline and the frameless doors.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Arteon will adapt a liftback tailgate or a conventional trunklid. The Sport Coupe Concept GTE came with a five-door layout and the third window in the production Arteon hints at this direction. The liftback design for sleeker versions of sedans are currently being adapted by BMW with the 4 Series Gran Coupe and Volkswagen Group's own Audi A5 Sportback.

Engines have also yet to be confirmed but do expect a range of turbocharged gas and diesel engines. With Volkswagen moving towards electrification, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models may soon join the Arteon lineup.
