Daihatsu FT Concept to be flagship 'full-scale' SUV model
Aside from the FX small crossover concept, Daihatsu also revealed the FT Concept; a 7-seater 'full-scale' SUV model at the 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. FR (front-engine rear-wheel-drive) SUV based concept is being position as a flagship model according to the Japanese automaker.
Design-wise, it takes a sporty and more premium approach which is highlighted by a rather imposing chrome grill reminiscent of the first-gem X10 Toyota Harrier modernized with LED lighting. The lower part of the vehicle features unpainted plastic accents and wheel arches as well as aluminum highlights to give a tough character.
Designated as a full-scale 7-seat SUV, the FT Concept measures 4350 mm long, 1750 mm wide, 1690 mm tall, with a 2685 mm wheelbase. Size-wise it seems to be based on the long-wheelbase 7-seat Daihatsu Terios which also rides on a 2685 mm wheelbase, measuring 4385 mm long, 1695 mm wide, and 1695 mm tall.
The interior features a high quality design and prioritizes space to comfortably seat 7 passengers despite the relatively compact exterior.
It is expected to be fitted with the new Toyota-derived 1.5-liter Dual-VVT-i engine rated at 107 PS and 139 Nm of torque recently introduced with the updated Xenia MPV as well as its Toyota Grand New Avanza counterpart.
The FT Concept is an interesting model to look out for and will likely make its way to emerging markets. The Terios which it is supposedly based on currently shares its platform with the Toyota Rush. As to whether this or a Toyota version will reach our shores will be a mystery at present.
