New compact MPV based on the Brio platform, will arrive in the Philippines
Honda Indonesia has revealed a the sketch of a new Honda MPV to make its global debut at the upcoming 21st Indonesia International Motor Show scheduled for September 19 to 29, 2013. The upcoming vehicle has been developed for the Asian market by Honda’s Asia Pacific R&D center based in Thailand and its Indonesian counterpart.
Honda Indonesia will field the new vehicle to the entry-level MPV segment which is currently the most popular category for the Indonesia market. It will seat seven persons in a 3-row configuration. Honda touts a spacious cabin, innovative design, and advanced safety for the new MPV. Under the hood will be a 1.5-liter gas engine promising sporty performance and fuel efficiency; it will most likely an L15A VTEC similarly found in the Jazz and City.
"The new Honda MPV has been developed especially for the needs of customers and road characteristics in Indonesia. This model will also be locally produced in Indonesia as the first product of its new Second Plant in Karawang, scheduled to begin operation in early 2014. This makes the new Honda MPV a very special product for Honda in Indonesia,” said Tomoki Uchia, President Director of P.T. Honda Prospect Motor.
Based on our earlier report of the Brio’s possible introduction to the Philippine market, our source also shared that a third MPV version of the Brio will also be introduced locally first quarter of 2014. It will go against the upcoming Chevrolet Spin, Suzuki APV and Toyota Avanza in the segment.
