Honda's hottest hatch to arrive in two weeks

After weeks of speculation (and anticipation), the long wait is almost over. The Honda Civic Type R is ready to be unleashed at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). This announcement also marks the return of Honda at MIAS after a decade.

According to Honda Cars Philippines Inc., the reveal of their hottest hatch in the country is in tune with the theme of this year's show, titled "Beyond Performance. Fresh off the boat from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Japanese automaker is inviting showgoers to visit their booth to see the icon in the metal.

Based off the tenth-generation Civic 5-door hatchback, the 2017 Civic Type R gets a more radical, beefed up exterior design from its more sedate counterpart. The front fascia is dominated by an an aggressive front bumper that integrates aero parts, along with red and black accents to highlight its sporting intentions. Meanwhile, the side skirts have been remoulded, also as an aerodynamic enhancement. At the rear, it gets a massive rear wing and, exclusive to this model, centrally-mounted exhaust pipes. It then rides on 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in 245/30R20 tires.

Power comes courtesy of a turbocharged 2.0-liter i-VTEC inline-four with DOHC and direct injection. The result is 320 PS at 6500 rpm along with nearly 400 Nm of torque at 2500 – 4500 rpm. Sticking to Type R tradition, there is only one transmission is available for this hot hatch. Enthusiasts can rejoice as it is a 6-speed manual transmission with rev match technology.

Inside, expect racy details such as carbon fiber trim, bucket seats and more red and black detailing. 

Besides the Type R, Honda carries on their sporty theme with Civic and BR-V, fully kitted out with Modulo kits and accessories. Another addition will be the HR-V Mugen, giving the crossover a sportier look. Last but not the least is the reveal of a highly exclusive model. Dubbed the City MIAS Edition, it will come with  features bespoke to this modelt. This special City will be limited to just 8 units.

The 2017 Manila International Auto Show MIAS will run from March 30 to April 2, 2017.
