Korean spec update gets 1.7 liter diesel among other engines
Hyundai has updated the Sonata in its home market and gains a plug-in hybrid and diesel engine in its lineup. Also new in the engine choices is a 1.6 liter turbo gas engine. It promises the consumption of a 1.6 liter engine while delivering the output of a 2.0 liter engine.
For the first ime in the Sonata's history, a plug-in hybrid model has been introduced in the all-new model and features a 2.0 liter gas engine. It puts out a combined output of 154 PS and 190 Nm of torque with the electric motor providing an extra 35 kilometers of range in pure electric mode. For those seeking a more conventional economical powerplant, the all-new Sonata is also available in a new 1.7 liter diesel engine. The diesel Sonata puts out 141 PS and 340 Nm of torque, similar to the European market i40 sedan. The Sonata diesel is also available with a dual-clutch automaitic. transmission.
The previously mentioned 1.6 liter turbo is also available with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Sonata 1.6 generates 180 PS and 264 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. Other engines in the Sonata include the 2.0 Turbo, the 2.0 CVVl, 2.4 MPI and GDI, the LPG equipped 2.0 LPi and the Hybrid.
