2016 Elantra likely to be unveiled later this year
Hyundai has released a teaser photo for its best-selling compact sedan, the Elantra. After four years in production, the current generation Elantra is expected to make way for the sixth generation later this year.
“The All-new Elantra captures the car’s unique design characteristics that really place this model in a class of its own. The subtle and innovative appearance enhancements reflect Hyundai Motor’s vision for design. Furthermore, this car indicates a move from traditional to modern styling by communicating the new model’s comfort, fashion and sporty feel.”, said Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Company.
From the teaser photo, the 2016 Elantra will be getting the company's hexagonal grill and wraparound headlights that gently swoops upwards. The hood gets bold character lines that start from the base of the windshield post down to where the edges of the grill meet. Also, the foglight area gets chrome accents and, below it, appears to be an extra air duct.
From the side, a prominent character line starts from the top of the front wheel well and blends into the rear tailights. A rakish roofline follows the one seen in the current generation Elantra. The company says that the use of active character lines evoke a “dynamic, stylish and confident appearance”.
As for engines, Hyundai has not released details regarding the 2016 Elantra powertrain lineup. However, it has been reported that the U.S-spec models will be getting a 178 PS 1.6-liter T-GDi engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
