Transport for the masses

Isuzu Philippines Corporation and Centro Manufacturing Corporation launched the Isuzu I-Van, an Isuzu NHR based passenger van for the mass market.

Based on the Isuzu NHR, Centro Manufacturing Corporation sought to create a van body option suited for the needs of PUV and public transport companies. The new i-VAN body option seamlessly integrates the truck cab and chassis with a 13 seater rear body. The i-VAN can be confugured to seat more depending on the customer.

"We are so confident in the i-VAN that we already invested in an entirely new production line--complete with the necessary facilities dedicated solely to its production and assembly--in our Maguyam, Cavite plant," said CMC President Raphael Juan. "In all of these pursuits for product excellence, I am sure that the buying public will be the ultimate beneficiaries of our company's locally-assembled quality products like the Centro i-VAN."

Under the hood is Isuzu's ever reliable 4JB1 turbocharged diesel engine, capable of 91 PS and 196 Newton meters of torque. During the 2010 Isuzu Diesel Challenge, this same engine in an NHR yielded 12.7 kilometers per liter of diesel while maintaining Euro-2 emissions standards. Passengers can also expect a comfortable ride thanks to Isuzu's own Flex Ride rear suspension.

"The local landscape is indeed changing, and as transport needs become more demanding, we want to be the companion that working motorists can rely on," said IPC President Ryoji Yamazaki. "The Isuzu NHR w/ i-VAN body option is our answer to the growing requirements of Filipinos when it comes to people and cargo transport."
