Jaguar PH celebrates 20 years with XE debut
There is a new cat in town, and Jaguar Philippines has just officially made it available in the country. Launched at the Palace Pool Club at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig last October 22, the company celebrated its 20th journey with the launching of the XE, their stake in the premium compact sedan segment.
“Power of Agility in the Urban Jungle, the ownership of a Jaguar purrs with passion and excitement from the roots of its heritage when Sir William Lyons started in 1922 and still alive today with so much benefits from the advances of technology from the aluminum and magnesium metallurgy, suspension and advanced electronics. This is the foundation of what a Jaguar is,” said Wellington C. Soong, Chair and President of Jaguar Cars Inc.
Originally launched by the automaker back in September 2014 in London, UK, it is Jaguar's most aerodynamic saloon car and was also the first to utilize Jaguar Land Rover's new modular vehicular structure. In addition, Jaguar also noted that the XE is mostly made up of aluminum, which enables for a lighter curb weight.
Design-wise, the front section of the XE is is distinctly Jaguar, with its aggressive fascia, sculpted hood, tapered headlights that come with the J-Blade daytime running lights and the prominent grill. It has a beltline that runs the entire length of the car, culminating towards the rear and blending with the rear quarter panels.
The rear is a mixture of the old and new according to Jaguar. The taillights feature an intersecting horizontal line that was used on the E-Type while the rear quarter panels' design were taken from their F-Type sports car.
Inside, fine-grain leather, technical fabrics and contrasting twin-needle stitching envelopes the entirety of the XE. Trim pieces finished in gloss black, textured aluminum, wood veneer and carbon fiber accents can also be specified upon order.
It has an 8-inch touchscreen instrument panel that manages the car's onboard functions and features, aircon vents for the rear passengers, dual gauge cluster, a fully electronic transmission system from ZF and front powered seats.
The initial engine available for the XE is a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection inline-four that originally debuted in the XF and XJ. It will be available in two power ratings, 200 PS / 280 Nm and 240 PS / 340 Nm. All of that power is then sent to the rear wheels via the previously mentioned 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The 3.0-liter supercharged V6 and the 2.0-liter diesel motor will follow soon.
Also, depending on the options, the price of the XE can undercut comparable Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series models.
