MMDA clears Guadalupe Nuevo, PUJs banned from taking EDSA-Guadalupe

Expect streets in the Guadalupe area of Makati, including EDSA, to have reduced vehicular congestion after new measures were strictly implemented by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Clearing operations were conducted today to remove illegally parked vehicles in Barangay Nuevo, Makati City along with sidewalk vendors whose goods and wares were confiscated.

Also today, public utility jeeps (PUJs) were disallowed from passing through EDSA-Guadalupe. This is part of the effort by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to alleviate traffic by reviewing policies regarding PUJ franchises that use major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

PUJs in the area should only use side streets or the ones parallel to EDSA.

“We will continue coordinating with barangay officials of Guadalupe Nuevo,” said MMDA supervising operations officer Bong Nebrija.

The MMDA will be implementing these measures by sector after noticing PUJs making u-turns to Cloverleaf Park cause traffic along EDSA northbound that builds-up until Estrella.

Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo officials and the MMDA is also in close coordination regarding the closure of the P. Burgos exit to EDSA.
